Physiotherapy & Home Rehabilitation

Consistent, gentle physiotherapy is half the success of any orthopaedic treatment. Follow these foundational exercise protocols as advised during your consultation.

Knee Rehabilitation & Quadriceps Strengthening

Essential for Knee Arthritis, Total Knee Replacement & ACL Recovery
10 Reps × 3 Sets Daily Ice 15 Mins After Exercise
Exercise 1

Ankle Pumps

Lie flat and slowly pull your toes up toward your shin, then point them down away from you. Hold 5 seconds each way. Improves calf blood flow and prevents blood clots.

Exercise 2

Static Quadriceps Sets

Place a small rolled towel beneath your knee. Press the back of your knee firmly down into the towel, tightening your thigh muscle while pulling your toes toward you. Hold for 10 seconds, then relax.

Exercise 3

Straight Leg Raises (SLR)

Tighten your thigh muscle to lock the knee straight, then slowly lift your leg 8–10 inches off the bed. Hold for 5–10 seconds and lower slowly without bending the knee.

Exercise 4

Heel Slides (Knee Bending)

While lying down, slowly slide your heel toward yourhips to bend the knee as far as comfortable, hold for 5 seconds, and slide it back completely flat.

Hip & Gluteal Rehabilitation

For Total Hip Replacement, Hip Arthritis & Post-Fracture Recovery
10 Reps × 2–3 Sets Daily
Exercise 1

Gluteal Squeezes

While lying on your back, squeeze your buttock muscles firmly together, hold for 5–10 seconds while breathing normally, and relax. Builds core pelvic stability.

Exercise 2

Supine Hip Abduction

Keep your kneecap and toes pointing straight up toward the ceiling. Slowly slide your leg out to the side on the bed, then bring it back to the center without crossing the midline.

Exercise 3

Standing Hip Extensions

Hold onto a sturdy chair or counter. Keeping your back straight, slowly move your operated leg backward without leaning forward, hold 5 seconds, and lower gently.

Shoulder Mobility & Frozen Shoulder Routine

Restores painless overhead reach and prevents capsular stiffness
Warm Compress 10 Mins Before Stretching
Exercise 1

Codman's Pendulum Swings

Lean forward slightly supporting your good arm on a table. Let your painful arm hang completely relaxed and gently swing it in small circles (10 clockwise, 10 counter-clockwise).

Exercise 2

Finger Wall Walk

Stand facing a wall and gently walk the fingers of your affected arm upward as high as comfortable without shrugging your shoulder. Hold 10 seconds at the top and walk down.

Exercise 3

Towel Internal Rotation Stretch

Hold a towel behind your back with your good hand at the top and affected hand at the bottom. Gently pull upward with the top hand until you feel a mild stretch.

Golden Rules for Safe Home Physiotherapy

  • Mild stretch is normal; sharp pain is not: Stop immediately if an exercise causes sudden sharp, stabbing pain or joint locking.
  • Never hold your breath: Count out loud during every 5–10 second hold so your blood pressure stays steady.
  • Follow your surgical protocol: After ligament reconstruction or fracture fixation, only advance weight-bearing when cleared by Dr. Avneet Sandhu during follow-up.
